My Time 4 Talk by Madona Cole-Lacy

As we joyfully celebrate our diverse religious, cultural, and social observances, one common thread I see is the love and connection that make this season special. It is clear we have not held back on celebrating with gifts, kindness, and love, shining a spotlight on each other’s lives. The question is, how do we preserve this aura of connection and generosity beyond the season as a contribution to a more harmonious world?

Fellow members, far and near!

I extend my gratitude to everyone who has provided human connection in their unique ways in my life over the past five years, when life as I once knew it set out for major restructuring on many levels. As the surviving spouse of a dignified soulmate and the daughter of beloved, caring parents who have bid this world farewell, I greatly appreciate the value of wonderful memories, along with the gifts of kindness, compassion, empathy, and love from caring people, many of whom I connect with in unexpected places.

I hope that, regardless of how we choose to follow our bliss, we will prioritize empathy, compassion, and respect for others. And by the way, since the well-being of humanity is not a “one-time-and-done” endeavor, I shamelessly exercise the right to regift myself these same gifts… ad infinitum.

Join me on the journey into the New Year with a resolve to embrace the spirit of this season’s commitment to kindness, unity, and personal growth! I encourage you to continue reflecting on how you can touch the hearts of others by sharing your gifts with fellow citizens of the world. I don’t need to underscore the fact that we live in a world where there are plenty of opportunities to help others in need by volunteering, lending a helping hand and ear to professionals who are experiencing a setback, or simply being present, physically or creatively, for one another, not just on festive occasions but as a status quo in our life.
